Hyundai Sonata (05 - 10)

Rolled out in 2004, the fifth generation Sonata is Hyundai’s attempt to break into the upmarket saloon market as an inexpensive, reliable, and high-spec alternative to the likes of the Volkswagen Passat and Ford Mondeo. It may not score a perfect 10 in terms of looks, but when it comes to value for money, it ticks all the boxes. On the inside, there’s a spacious cabin, with lots of standard kit, and comfortable seating (albeit a bit low down). The dashboard is neatly laid-out and looks well. It’s a decent car to drive too. The handling is good, and the ride quality is smooth. The only criticism is the driving position being too low and the gear change is somewhat vague.
